Driven by curiosity, Eilidh learns more from Colin’s confidante.

Eilidh Brogan reflects on love and art as she looks back on her life with the Scottish artist, Colin Brogan. The story begins with her childhood in Scotland.

Eilidh now leads a secluded life in Cassis in the South of France, where she teaches art. Forty years previously, her young artist husband Colin Brogan died just as his career was taking off. Now, at the turn of the millennium, he is being hailed as a great Scottish artist.

With the re-discovery of Colin’s work, the comes prurient interest into the Brogans’ lives. From her run-down villa, Eilidh reflects on their life together.

Ronald Frame’s novel was first published in 2002.
