Irish Song in Bristol and Mendelssohn’s Scottish from Leipzig

Linton Stephens showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including ´óÏó´«Ã½ New Generation Artist Niamh O’Sullivan in concert at St George’s, Bristol.

Linton Stephens showcases the best performances by ´óÏó´«Ã½ orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other great performing groups from Europe and around the globe.

In our final trip to St George’s Bristol this week, we hear current ´óÏó´«Ã½ New Generation Artist performing songs from her native Ireland by the likes of Hamilton Harty, John Larchet and Ernest Moeran.

We end our pilgrimage to the musical city of Leipzig this week with music from three of the most celebrated musicians working there. Ensemble Masques perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s uncharacteristically uncouth Peasant Cantata, and pianist Claire Huagci is the soloist in Clara Schumann's Piano Concerto. Plus Felix Mendelssohn’s symphonic homage to Scotland rounds out our week spent in the famous Gewandhaus; Andris Nelsons conducts the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 ‘Scottish’ for our of centrepiece at 3pm.
