Rescuing Russia's Orphans
Tim Whewell has gained rare access to the closed world of Russia's homes to report on the struggle to free orphans from the state system.
Russia's vast network of state orphanages remains largely unchanged since Communist times, with tens of thousands of children destined to spend their whole lives in institutions. Many have living parents who rejected them on doctors' advice. Now the Kremlin says it wants the orphanages to close and children to be brought up in families.
