In a time of tumultuous change for women in the film industry Talking Movies reports on female cinema pioneers. In the programme there will be an interview with one of the most important women in the history of cinema - the prolific Belgian-born French director Agnes Varda - widely regarded as the mother of the French New Wave. Additionally, there will be a profile of Alice Guy-Blache, widely viewed as the world's first female director, who founded a studio early in the 20th century. There are also reports on pioneering women in other areas of cinema - in animation, acting and experimental film.
