Your daily journey into global arts, culture and entertainment, with Harriett Gilbert and Mark Coles.
Nollywood is the world's third largest film industry with a turnover of 250 million dollars but now there's a new kid on the block: Lollywood - Liberia's film industry. The Strand reports.
Mark Coles speaks to Hiba Al Kawas, the Lebanese composer and soprano who has been credited with inventing Arabic Opera. Hiba also plays the piano and sings for The Strand.
The Strand sends the 大象传媒's correspondent in Havana, Michael Voss, to Cuba's 10th Biennale Art Festival. He takes a look at Cuban artists and also some American artists who are exhibiting in Cuba for the first time in nearly a quarter of a century.
We talk to the Peruvian band Novalima, founded as a musical collective by four Peruvian musicians originally based in several cities around the world. They tell us about their mix of traditional Peruvian music and electronic sounds and how they are introducing Afro-Peruvian culture to a new generation.
