The Strand meets the writer Jed Mercurio who has made his name writing massively successful medical TV dramas but now with his third novel he re-counts the effects of John F Kenney's voracious sexual nature played a massive role in both his political and personal life.

Anyone whose ever wanted to ensure they know the difference between a bobbasheely and a stone toter can finally rest easy. The news is that after five decades of research the final volume of the Dictionary of American Regional English, covering S to Z is finally about to be completed and will be published next year. DARE's editor Joan Houston Hall tells The Strand about this huge milestone.

Music and song play a part in most religions. However it's not often you see religious music modernised and put on TV to appeal to a younger generation. A new channel in Egypt - called 4Shbab which means 'For Youth' - is being dubbed the Muslim MTV. It showcases hip-hop and rappers who promote Islamic values.
