Inside Buffalo
Fred Kuwornu was born in Italy. His father is from Ghana and his mother from Tuscany so he is "black". He read that Spike Lee was planning to shoot a film near his home, based on a novel about black American soldiers who fought in WWII and got a job as an extra on the film. This took him on a personal voyage of discovery - interviewing veteran Buffalo soldiers as they were called and Italian partisans, and culminating in his first ever documentary: Inside Buffalo.
Kasse Mady Diabate
Malian master vocalist and guitarist Kasse Mady Diabate may not be as well known as his compatriots Toumani Diabate and Ali Farka Toure but with a lineage of traditional singers that can be traced back 700 years this master musician is a treasure in his homeland. His new album Manden Djeli Kan is released on April 13th and he performs for us in The Strand studio.
