Cannes Film Festival
It's just over half-way at the Cannes film festival. Stars including footballer Eric Cantona, singer Mariah Carey and celebrity Paris Hilton have trodden the now well-worn red carpets. And the films have been getting some attention too. Our reporter Alex Stanger tells us about the favourite so far - A Prophet and brings us the critical reactions to new films from directors Ken Loach and Lars Von Trier.

The Strand visits Collect: the international art fair for contemporary objects 2009 to meet representatives from some of the world's leading galleries, to assess both how popular crafts have become and whether or not applied arts have been affected by the cooling of the international markets in the same way fine art has been.
