Prime Patagonia
Patagonia's inhabitants have to contend with almost incessant gales. Maras give birth to their young out in the open, but rear them underground in burrows for protection against both the elements and predators. The warrens become community creches for around 20-30 young, but they're also a magnet for other creatures looking for a safe haven. Burrowing owls take every opportunity to move in when nursery school is out, requiring constant vigilance by the maras.
