Caine Prize
The Nigerian writer EC Osundo has just been announced as the winner of one of Africa's most prestigious literary prizes. The Caine Prize is awarded for the best short story written in English by an African writer and Osundo is the 10th winner for his short story 'Waiting'. Harriett meets the author.

One and Other
In London this summer the sculptor Anthony Gormley has come up with an experiment which he calls a living monument. The work is called 'One and Other' and Gormley is asking British people from all over the UK to come and stand - for an hour - on Trafalgar Square's empty plinth - a space where local authorities put specially-commissioned artwork. We talk to Anthony Gormley about the work, viewable online as well as in central London and meet some of those standing on the plinth.

Ben Jelloun
Winner of the Impac and Goncourt prizes among others, Tahar Ben Jelloun is one of North Africa's most successful post-colonial writers. His latest novel 'Leaving Tangier' is a tale of Moroccan would-be emigrants, and the toll emigration has on one's sense of self. Maya Jaggi reviews it for us.

Ouagadougou Cultural Tour
The people of Burkina Faso enjoy one of the richest cultures in Africa. Its capital Ouagadougou plays host, most famously, to the FESPACO film festival. But film isn't the only art to flourish in the city, it also has a great reputation for music, dance and theatre. And so Etienne Minoungou, a well-known local actor and founder of the biannual theatre festival 'R茅cr茅atrales', gives a tour of the cultural highlights of his city, beginning at the open-air theatre, The Kartel.
