A year on from the short conflict between Russia and Georgia, Georgia has seen its ambition to become a bigger player on the world stage fade from view.

The Georgia-Russia conflict - which began one year ago on Friday - was devastating for the smaller of the two states. It saw the ensuing Russian invasion of the breakaway region of South Ossetia as an incursion into its sovereign territory.
