Pelican colony
Wading birds can find plentiful food in the waters around Pulicat in Madras. Monatage of birds including painted storks, ducks and flamingos. There are also pelicans. They fly to the pelican colony at Nelapattu, some 40km inland from the feeding grounds. It is the largest pelicanry in southern Asia, and is noisy and crowded. Chicks stick their heads into their parents' throats to get food regurgitated for them. Young pelicans grow fast.
