The wing and tail design of the female hummingbird allows her to be able to fly in any direction, but not so t the male marvelous spatule-tailed hummingbird. He has a significant problem. Weighed down by long, cumbersome tail feathers, flying is difficult and tiring. Yet to attract a female, he not only has to look good, but has to prove his skill in flying with these adornments.
