Prize flight

Weighed down by long, cumbersome tail feathers, flying is difficult and tiring. Yet to attract a female, he not only has to look good, but has to prove his skill in flying with these adornments. The effort required to hover with these long tail feathers means the males can only manage short, sharp bursts.
