James Naughtie investigates the changing role of the British Foreign Office on the ground in India.
A century ago the map of the world was coloured with the pink of the British Empire. Britain's diplomats reigned supreme, with the reassurance of a gunboat to support them. But the world has changed much since then. The British Foreign Office has had to change too, as the UK faces new threats and priorities across the globe. In the first part of 鈥淭he New Art of Diplomacy鈥 James Naughtie is in India, to examine how one outpost reflects the new way of doing things for British diplomats.
