A Multi Donor Fund was set up in Indonesia, to manage the reconstruction effort in Aceh, which had been one of the most isolated and neglected parts of the country. The fund is managed by the World Bank.
Lesley Curwen speaks to the woman who heads it in Jakarta, Shamima Khan, and asked her whether it is possible to get donors, governments and agencies to agree.
Plus Haiti's tragedy has emphasised the importance of the management of disaster relief and it has brought a call from the business world for a new organisational structure to cope with this kind of humanitarian disaster.
Philip Ellis, Chief Executive of Willis Structured Risk Solutions, advises governments and companies on the risks they face and told us that disasters are not as rare as we think.
