Ella Fitzgerald and Earl Bostic special

Paul marks the birthday of Ella Fitzgerald, and there's a celebration of the dynamic alto saxophonist Earl Bostic.

A note from Paul...

"This week we celebrate the birthday of
Ella Fitzgerald, one of the great jazz singers who pleased the both critics and the public, billed as "the first lady of song".
Several solo performances are lined up, as well as a couple of the legendary 'Ella and Louis' recordings where she and Louis Armstrong give classics from the great American songbook a good going over.
And there's a celebration of one of the founding fathers of rhythm-and-blues, the dynamic alto saxophonist Earl Bostic. When you hear Earl blow it's as if he's pinned you up against the wall to insist that you hear what he has to play!
Inevitably, 'Flamingo' will figure in the show, the disc that was a huge hit in 1951 when it nearly blew our heads off. It rocks. Wonderful."
