The rivalry between Joey Dunlop and Mervyn Robinson increased. At first Mervyn was the better rider and secured sponsorship from Hugh O'Kane. As Joey badly needed a sponsor he asked Danny McCook, his employer at the time, to watch him ride. Danny recalls when he realised that Joey was going to be really good.
