Tynesiders

In Newcastle upon Tyne, kittiwakes have moved in from the open ocean and taken up residence on the Tyne Bridge. Kittiwake numbers have plummeted on the coast, but here they are booming, the bridge is an ideal city highrise nesting spot. The cleaning up of the Tyne means there is plenty of fish to feed their young and with the kittiwakes turning the city system to their advantage this is now the most inland breeding site for the species in the world.
