Rockery resident

Cookie Wilcock, works from home in Buckinghamshire with her husband in an office that faces straight on to the rockery in their garden. Gordon Buchanan has come to meet Cookie and film a small animal which she has noticed living there. Bank voles have been attracted into her garden with some well placed seed and peanuts originally put out for the birds. The bank vole is the smallest of the British vole species and an unusual garden visitor, despite there being an estimated 23 million of them in Britain. Bank voles are food for foxes, owls and cats, so they won't hang around for long in the open. But when there are garden birds about they take it as a sign that the coast is clear, and they can relax a little. To distinguish this species from the average mouse, you need to look at their ears, they are much smaller.
