Cole Porter special

Late night big band, jazz and irresistible sounds, plus a tribute to Cole Porter.

A note from Paul...

It's delicious, it's delightful, it's delovely - there's a modest celebration of Cole Porter this weekend. He was king of the "catalogue" song, such as

You're the top!
You're the Coliseum.
You're the top!
You're the Louvre Museum.
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss
You're a Bendel bonnet,
A Shakespeare sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile,
You're the Tower of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa
I'm a worthless cheque, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, baby, I'm the bottom you're the top!

Top performers sing and play his songs (he wrote the music as well as the words) on Saturday.

And there's yet another centenary to celebrate: composer, arranger and orchestra leader David Rose, best-known for "Holiday for Strings".

Another two-hour's-worth of stunning stuff. How does he do it, week after week? Marvel at the miracle and talk it up.

Pip, pip ...
