大象传媒 Essex presenter John Hayes has died aged 61 after losing his short battle against lung cancer. John passed away at Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford during the evening of Thursday, 30 September 2010.

John passed away at Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford during the evening of Thursday, 30 September 2010.

His professional career began in the mid 70s at the United Biscuits Network, before moving to independent radio.

He joined the 大象传媒 in 1990 where he presented the morning phone-in, he went on to present the breakfast show and most recently was Drivetime presenter.

Working with John at UBN in Middlesex were such well known names as Roger Scott and Dale Winton.

John joined Radio 210 in Reading replacing Steve Wright on the weekday breakfast show.

After two years he joined the new commercial station for Bristol, Radio West and in 1983 went to Essex Radio in Southend where he presented the mid morning show.

When he joined 大象传媒 Essex he headed up the Southend studio from where he presented his morning programme.

He was also for many years the commentator at the Southend Air Show.

For almost 10 years he presented the very successful music and memories Sunday show John's Journey Back In Time.

It led to him presenting the weekday breakfast show with Etholle George, before moving onto the Drivetime show.

He leaves a wife Dawn, and three sons.
