John Clifford of Kilwaughter
To mark the work of the late poet, playwright and actor, John Clifford of Kilwaughter (d.1983), Larne and District Folklore Society have published a collection of his poems in a wee booklet.
Sam Cross of Larne reads us part of ‘The Dealer’s Wake’; and John’s son, Raymond Clifford, tells us a bit more about his father including how he revived the Mounthill Fair, and how many of his poems were based on his own life experiences.
As an actor, John Clifford once met Mae West, and he knew Richard Hayward well. To finish, Raymond reads us his father’s poem ‘The Hiring Fair’. (Broadcast: 27 Mar 2005)
