Gustav Mesmer
Gustav Mesmer spent many years in an institution in Germany, locked away after denouncing God at his local church. His drawing skills gave him a kind of freedom, and he spent hours sketching fantastical flying machines and designing bicycles with wings.
When he was released, he began to build his inventions, and although they never flew, they continued to inspire him. Today, the residents of Buttenhausen continue to recognise his flying machines by building their own amazing contraptions and celebrating his life.
