Job cuts in the Fire Service

Maurice Whyte from the Fire Brigade Union and Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Olaf Baars talk about the proposed budget cuts to the Fire Service.

Berkshire's Fire Service is being accused of getting its priorities wrong when it comes to budget cuts. Nearly 拢1.5m-worth of savings will be considered by the fire authority this week. Cuts being considered are scrapping at least 24 jobs, a freeze on recruitment, reducing the number of fire engines responding to automatic fire alarms and changes to response in rural areas. Maurice Whyte from the FBU told Andrew Peach his concerns with these proposals.
