Nick Hardingham from Alder Carr Farm at Creeting St Mary in Suffolk told Richard Bond how the soaring cost of commodities such as oil and grain is eating his profits. The pellets his chickens are fed on have risen in price by 25% in the last year and according to the Retail Price Index, the cost of basic foodstuffs like milk, bread, potatoes, cheese, eggs and pork sausages has risen by 40% in the last five years.
