The Airtrack scheme

A controversial rail link giving direct access from Reading to Heathrow Airport has been shelved. David Prever finds out what the Airtrack scheme would have meant for Heathrow passengers.

A controversial rail link which would have given direct access from Reading to Heathrow airport has been shelved due to a lack of money, according to the airport operator BAA.

The 拢675m Airtrack scheme would have connected Terminal 5 with Reading, Guildford and London Waterloo stations.

Our transport correspondent Paul Clifton says the scheme would have meant a great deal to a large number of people trying to access Heathrow.
