Richard Davies on the Quantum Shed. Quantum Shed is my playful response to the oddity of having this incongruous object planted for no apparent reason (and slowly become 'invisible' over time) in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ building. On seeing it, I was immediately reminded of the Tardis and its ability (normally) to blend in with its surroundings wherever it materialises, and the fact that its 'chameleon circuit' is faulty, so it always keeps the form of the police box. I can imagine the Red Shed as another space-time vehicle with its circuit stuck on 'generic garden shed'.

I've always been fascinated with the surreal Alice in Wonderland paradoxes of relativity, quantum mechanics and how they open up the world of the visual to a whole new level. So let's, ahem, shed some light on the installation. As we enter, we see another shed, suspended in space and twinkling hypnotically. Looking closer, what's inside the 'inner' shed? Here's where the space-time theme really takes off. Infinite sheds! The work is intended to be light, humorous and thought-provoking, reminding us to look beyond first appearances.
