Dairy farming in Berkshire

Berkshire has lost a third of its dairy farmers in the last five years. Andrew talks to the farmers who are selling up and finds out why.

A Berkshire farmer is having to sell his dairy cattle because he's losing money producing milk. Berkshire has lost a third of its dairy farmers in the last five years.

Although the price of milk has gone up in recent years, production costs have also risen and price increases are not being passed back to farmers.

Today the National Farmers Union is meeting with MPs to to try to get fairer prices for its members' milk. Andrew Peach asked Michael Bowden from Manor Farm in Brimpton how much money he's losing.
