Giles and Sue's Royal Wedding
The wedding of George, Prince of Wales (later to be George IV) and Caroline of Brunswick in 1795 was the most cringe-making royal marriage ceremony of all time. George only wed Caroline to clear his huge gambling debts - the match was doomed from the start.
George had been drinking for 3 days before the wedding and stumbled up the aisle, supported by a Duke on each side. Rather than look at his wife-to-be, the Prince had eyes only for his mistress Lady Jersey, who was in the congregation.
Within a year of the wedding George and Caroline were leading separate lives, although the couple did have one daughter – Princess Caroline.
