The Many Faces of Benny Goodman
A selection of the best in jazz music.
One listener thought the Benny Goodman output from around the late thirties was some of the best music that came out of the orchestra and the small groups. Rob McConnell鈥檚 Boss Brass recorded in 1995 shows how big band jazz of the late twentieth century still has the power to excite and keep the feet tapping! An anniversary from Miles Davis who played his now famous date with the Gil Evans Orchestra in May 1961, so almost fifty years to the day. Louis Armstrong sings while Annie Ross, Lionel Hampton and Illinois Jacquet all perform separately. Dave Brubeck shows off his songwriting skills while the re-discovered George Lewis plays one of those classics that had all the fifties trad bands doing their versions
