Row in West Yorkshire over naming new roads after German and French twin towns: 1925 law invoked so local magistrates court will have the final say over the dispute in the village of South Kirkby . The Parish Council Leader,a veteran of the twinning movement, Labour councillor Laurie Harrison, tells the Politics Show that Sprokhoevel in German already has a "South Kirkby Strasse" so why not return the compliment? But another councillor,the Independent,Wilf Benson and local resident June Harrison say their protest group want the roads names to reflect the mining community鈥檚 local heritage. They say its not democratic to go to court as they will have to pay costs.
