In this lecture entitled 'Private Faces in Public Places', Richard Hoggart considers the large scale public communication of broadcasting. He analyses the natures and societies that broadcasting can highlight due to its reflective outlook. Mainly focusing on television, he explores the structural relevance of the output and its reflection of the culture it lives in. He asks who has the power to decide what parts of the culture should be promoted and what should be hidden. What is an ideal broadcaster?
