The Pursuit of Learning

Dr Albert E Sloman explains how important the fields of study are to a new university in his second Reith lecture entitled 'The Pursuit of Learning'.

This year's Reith lecturer is Dr Albert E Sloman, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex. He was previously Gilmour Professor of Spanish at Liverpool University and Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Dr Sloman explores what is needed to make an institute for higher education in Essex in his series entitled 'A University in the Making'.

In this lecture entitled 'The Pursuit of Learning', Dr Sloman explains why Essex University decided to restricted their courses to three fields of study. Choosing physical sciences, social studies and comparative studies, they aim to provide a new collaborative way of learning. Will this new approach to faculties provide a stable learning base?
