Corruption in Afghanistan
With the arrival of huge sums in aid from the West corruption has run rampant in Afghanistan, allowing many in power to siphon off millions. Despite persistent calls from Western politicians as well as Afghans themselves little has been done to seriously tackle corruption in the country. US Senator Lindsay Graham confronted President Karzai over corruption and former planning minister Dr Bashar Dost offered to investigate corruption at the highest government levels, but nothing significant has yet been done.
