Regional fire control centres criticised

A plan to reorganise fire control centres across England ended in complete failure, according to a new report from MPs.

A plan to reorganise fire control centres across England ended in complete failure, according to a new report from MPs. The project, introduced by the Labour government in 2004, included merging Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Luton as part of an East control centre, with Buckinghamshire as part of the South East.

Three streets in Buckinghamshire are on a list of the top 50 in the UK which have the slowest broadband connections. Lewis Scot, who runs a charity from his house in Wavendon Gate, talks to Jessica Cooper about the problems caused by the slow speed.

Campaigners against plans to merge two schools in Hertfordshire have gathered outside the building where a public inquiry is being held. A proposal to merge Bishops Stortford High School for boys and Herts and Essex School for girls has been rejected but that is being appealed.
