Leap of faith
Many people believe that the leopard seal is the most dangerous killer in Antarctic waters and that swimming with one would be suicide. But cameramen Doug Allan and Peter Scoones were determined to film them hunting, without the encumbrance of a cage, so in they went. Doug had swum with every other type of southern seal and had the feeling that the leopard seals would not attack them without warning. The seal makes some tentative snaps at the camera but does not come closer. Meanwhile, another seal plays with the body of a penguin and presents it to the cameraman, like a cat bringing a mouse to its owner.
