Is local radio the best place to learn about local democracy?

Is local radio really the best place to learn about local democracy? Where do you get your news about Kent politics? Who do you turn to?

Is local radio really the best place to learn about local democracy? Where do you get your news about Kent politics? Who do you turn to? MPs have debated in Parliament about the 大象传媒 plans to cut local radio output.

Conservative MP Robin Walker, who has previously warned the 大象传媒 against cuts to local services, was granted the debate at Wesminster Hall.

Earlier this month, Mark Thompson, the director-general announced a 20% cut in spending over five years and the closure of 2,000 posts, across the 大象传媒. It is as a result of the freeze in the licence fee.

In local radio, across England, around 280 jobs are to go, with a proposal to share afternoon, evening and some weekend programmes, alongside the closure of most medium wave transmitters.

One of our Kent MPs, at today's parliamentary debate is Roger Gale, Conservative MP for Thanet North and a former 大象传媒 producer.

Is CCTV a waste of time and money?

Thanet District Council has decided not to man its CCTV cameras during parts of the night, it says you will understand why. Do you? Is there any point having someone watching at night?

Does CCTV make us safer? There are believed to be 4.5m surveillance cameras in this country. We are caught on camera up to 300 times a day.
