Out of Court disposals
Half of all crimes last year in the West Mercia police force area were dealt with out of court. Magistrates and solicitors say they are concerned this means some crimes will be "brushed under the carpet".
One Shropshire solicitor submitted a Freedom of Information request to West Mercia police and found some crimes resolved in the community included an offence of possessing indecent images of children, and another of sexual assault.
West Mercia police say serious cases like those will only be dealt with following the consent of the victim and the Crown Prosecution Service. They say Community Resolutions deliver fair and appropriate justice and reduce re-offending.
