Bobby Womack - Archive concert (1990)
The Classic Concert this week features Bobby Womack, recorded at the Lewisham Jazz Festival, and features the solid copper-bottomed classics "Gonna Make Love To You", "Ain't Nothing Like The Lovin'" and "Looking For Love".
Bobby's musical career stretches back to the mid 1960s, when he and his brothers were discovered singing gospel by Sam Cooke. He has remained professionally active throughout, and just last year provided vocals for Damon Albarn's Gorillaz project.
Although recognition came late to Bobby Womack, he has become one of the most important and influential musicians in the development of black music and is now regarded as an important part of the soul tradition.
