Christmas jazz

A selection of the best in jazz music.

Over the years there has been tendency for the record industry to celebrate Christmas with versions of various seasonal renditions in different styles. The jazz fraternity has not escaped this seasonal swing and to be fair there have been some very good versions of festive music. In this show there are a number of examples, one going back to the twenties and another one which is from last year. Nellie Lutcher sings her first recorded song which comes from 1947 while Dave Brubeck has an example of music written for the Peanuts cartoon character and his television series. We also remember Bob Brookmeyer whose death was announced this week and singer Gregory Porter who will grace our screens before Christmas chats about his new CD which is to be launched in February
