Constructive cassowaries
The cassowary is a flightless bird almost as tall as a person. It is shy and rarely seen in the wild but its presence is vital to the rainforest ecosystem. It is one of the few animals which feeds on the fruits of trees and shrubs. Many of these can't germinate without animals like the cassowary. As the forest is directly linked to the reef by regulating sediments entering the lagoon, the cassowary contributes to the health of the reef itself.
