WHYS 30: Who supports Assad?

Troops are now said to be moving closer to opposition-controlled areas in the Syrian city of Homs. President Assad shows no indication he will be quitting. So who supports him? And why?

We're continuing to follow events in Syria. The Reuters news agency reports a further 47 people died in Homs overnight. Troops are now said to be moving closer to opposition-controlled areas in the city - and there are now fears of a ground invasion. We'll be doing our best to hear the latest from inside Syria, and also get reaction to events from around the world.
