Owen Bennett Jones presents two stories on the Falkland Islands.

Owen Bennett Jones presents stories from Allan Little in the Falklands and Fergal Keane in Argentina.

DISPUTED ISLANDS
Before 1982 scarcely anyone in Britain had heard of a territory called the Falkland Islands or - as the Argentinians call them, Las Malvinas.

But then a territorial dispute flared up and led to a war which cost more than 900 lives.

Recently the islands have been back in the news for a very particular reason - the heir to the British throne, Prince William, has been flying a helicopter there.

In this programme we have two reports, one from Allan Little who has just returned from the Falklands.

Life is often difficult - there is a shortage of eggs and fresh vegetables - but many islanders feel rooted to their homes.

The second dispatch comes from Fergal Keane, who reflects on the Argentinian view of their claims to the islands.
