The West and Russia
In the past, Russia reached out to foreigners, absorbing their skills, technology, and even their sporting events. But nowadays for many Russians the normal attitude, encouraged by the government, is a deep-seated suspicion of outsiders. Steve Rosenberg has been to a small town east of Moscow to investigate.
Disappointed Ivorians
Even in desperate times, football supporters can get some solace if their team is winning. And this was certainly the caes in a refugee camp filled with families who had fled the Ivory Coast. Last weekend, some of the refugees settled down to watch the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, fully expecting their heavily favoured national team to take home the title. But the result was not as they hoped. Tamasin Ford was on hand to watch – and cheer – Les Éléphants.
