Scientists have made a breakthrough which could help patients waiting for a kidney transplant.

Transplant operations where the organ has come from a live donor have become more common in recent years.

But the majority of operations use organs from people who have died and not all kidneys offered by donors are suitable.

It's hoped this new breakthrough could increase the number of usable organs and cut the transplant waiting list - a list that currently has 7,000 names on it.
