Frugal Innovation
Peter Day hears from innovators keeping things simple and looking hard at what people really need.
The whole world is on a quest for innovation and new ideas, products and services devised to help solve problems and improve lives everywhere.
Now there's a way of thinking about and doing innovation that takes its experience not from well-funded research departments in big businesses but from clever people with ingenious ideas who are not necessarily well off or educated or influential.
It's called frugal innovation, and it comes out of India: and by using this profoundly different approach to the business of innovation, people may find ways of helping the poor world and which may in turn help the rich West.
According to some people Global Business hears from, frugal innovation means keeping things simple and looking hard at what people actually need.
