Fictional second chances in the latest novel by the Chinese-American author Gish Jen: do countries, as well as people, deserve another bite of the cherry? And joining us from California is Van Phillips, the American inventor whose revolutionary artificial leg design has given a new lease of life to both himself and countless other amputees world-wide.
