Simon Reeve helps build a home
Simon Reeve meets Maulidi Diwayu, a campaigner in the Tana River Delta in Kenya, and hears about his efforts to stop land being sold off, as part of his epic journey for the ´óÏó´«Ã½ 2 Series ‘Indian Ocean with Simon Reeve’.
The Tana River Delta area is one of the most important ecological sites in the whole of Africa, and has been identified by UK charity the RSPB as a wildlife site of global importance. The Kenyan government is trying to sell off the delta so vast areas of sugar cane can be grown on the land, some of which could end up in Europe as an eco-friendly bio fuel. But aside from affecting the wildlife, around ninety thousand people live in – and off – the delta, by fishing, and grazing their livestock on its fertile grasslands.
