After playing at London’s iconic punk venue, The Roxy, TV Smith & The Adverts catch the attention of Brian James of The Damned, which leads to an introduction to Jake Riviera, co-founder of Stiff records, a record deal promptly follows. While initially TV feels he is being ‘stiffed’, he can’t deny they were creating an icon out of Gaye and putting the Adverts firmly in punk rock history.
