Gang of five jailed over atempted Bury St Edmunds jewellery robbery

A judge praises the efforts of two have-a-go heroes who stopped a gang of five robbing a jewellery store in Bury St Edmunds. The raiders get 36 years prison between them.

In the news hour from 5pm, five men who were foiled by a pensioner and a shop worker when they tried to raid a jewellers in Bury St.Edmunds have been jailed for a total of 36 years. The have-go-heroes were both praised by the judge for seeing off the gang from the Thurlow Champness store. Foz gets the details from our reporter Debbie Tubby and from Suffolk Police.

Foz has more on the Olympic organisers selling three thousand extra tickets for today's events after facing criticism over the number of empty seats at the Games. All accredited groups, including international sports federations and media organisations, are being asked to identify any seats they don't plan to use, so they can be released.

Foz speaks to a Suffolk detective who believe there may be a link between an attempted burglary at a bank in Needham Market and a similar incident which happened at Hadleigh in April. Thieves tried to steal the ATM machine at Barclays bank on the town's high street in the early hours of Saturday morning.
